BMW have released details of their new car, the face lifted BMW X5. Due to be released later this year, we have details of the new car.
The face lifted version of the X5 will have completely redesigned chassis and design to the bodywork. Three new engines will be available replacing current engines, the xDrive30d, xDrive40d will replace the current xDrive35d and the current xDrive48i will be replaced with the new xDrive50i. All the new engines will meet new stringent Euro5 standards.
The new xDrive30d is a new engine that will produce 245bhp yet only emit 195g/km of co2, this is a vast improvement on the old xDrive30d as that only produced 235bhp and had a higher emissions. The new xDrive35d is the twin-turbo power plant found in used cars such as the BMW 335d, this has been replaced by the xDrive40d, producing a massive 306bhp propelling the new car to 60mph in 6.6seconds. The xDrive50i will be the flagship model, with 408bhp, 0-60mph only takes 5.5 seconds. All the engines will be mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox, this is how BMW have managed to achieve the low co2 output yet allows smoother gear changes.
On the exterior the new car will feature the ‘halo’ in the headlight, this time using bright white LED’s rather than bulbs, a new design of the rear light cluster with light bars and a newly designed rear bumper to show off the enlarged exhaust pipes.
On the interior, the X5 now comes with standard leather across the range, an optional third row of seats now offers the X5 to carry 7 people and still have 620litres of room for luggage. BMW have again used the iDrive system in the new car for the driver to control the audio and satellite navigation options.
Options available for the new car will include cruise control, ‘Stop and Go’ – which is BMW’s take on the stop/start in other new and used cars. Xenon lights are also an optional feature as is a head-up display, PDC (park distance control) with a reversing camera, Adaptive Cornering Lights, High Beam Assist, Land Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info.
The new BMW X5 will be on sale on the 5th June 2010.
